Caryl Chessman, the 38 year-old man in San Quentin Prison, California, U.S.. Who was fought off his execution seven times in the last 11 years, and who wrote the bestseller "Cell 2455 Death Row", has just heard that Califonia's govenor Edmund Brown has refused to give him a reprieve, and unless his petition now before the U.S. Supreme Court succeeds, he will die in the gas chamber on Friday October 23rd.

Govenor Brown said the evidence of his guilt of kidnapping girls for rape and robbery in 1948 was overwhelming, and that he could not use his power of clemency because Chessman showed no contrition and wanted vindication.
